Summer intensive sessions of Access Kramatorsk and Berdiansk Team

Summertime is an absolutely great period for traveling when one can learn about other cultures, unplug oneself, even get a new perspective on ordinary, routine things and, of course, meet new people and old friends.

That’s why the first intensive session of Access Kramatorsk and Berdiansk Team was dedicated to journeys, trips, voyages, etc., and named «Traveling broadens minds». In contrast, the second aimed to discuss the diversity and brightness of the youth lifestyle. About 20 students participated in the sessions despite the dramatic situations in their homeland and native cities.

Students brainstormed things associated with traveling, repeated topic vocabulary in word search and crosswords, played Jeopardy to find out interesting facts about geography, voted for the best ways to travel and reasons to do it, wrote 6-word stories about travelers and tourists, used critical thinking to explain an odd word in a line, solved travel problems and worked on team projects «Summer destination».

In the context of the «Youth lifestyle» topic, participants worked on team projects «Best PJ party ever!», made comics on different situations youth deal with, played games «Odd word» and «Name things which…», watched videos about youth subcultures, then created their own vision of a possible youth community.

It was a fruitful time of friendship, collaboration, and practicing English. As one of the students, Andriy, says: «It was great! We spent a wonderful time together with another group from Kramatorsk playing games, working on projects, and discussing different topics. We made new friends. I really enjoy such intensive sessions!»

Moreover, Access groups had an opportunity to communicate with Regional English Language Officer Lottie Backer and Cultural Affairs Assistant Alyona Sukhinina who were invited to one of the sessions. Students asked many interesting questions about guests’ experience in traveling and American culture and lifestyle.

So, let summer begin!
